Chemistry Department at the Faculty of Science, Helwan University. Is the largest department within the faculty in terms of the number of students and faculty members.

Study in the Chemistry Department commenced in 1984, making it one of the first scientific departments established within the Faculty of Science. During that period, the department's professors played a significant role in developing the study regulations for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, equipping the college's and research laboratories, and planning for the department's future to yield graduates who are competitive with those from other Egyptian science faculties and meet the needs of the industrial zone of Helwan.

The Department of Chemistry is distinguished by offering courses in collaboration with prominent research centers and major industrial companies located in the Helwan area, including the Central Metallurgical Research and Development Institute, El-Tebbin Institute for Metallurgical Studies, El Nasr Company for Coke and Chemicals Production, Egyptian Iron and Steel Company, and cement companies.

The Chemistry Department has 60 faculty members and 24 teaching assistants, distributed among five divisions:

 Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry Division

 Physical Chemistry Division

 Organic Chemistry Division

 Chemistry and Biochemistry Division

 Applied Chemistry Division

Since its establishment, the department has continuously worked on developing the chemistry curricula. New courses have been introduced, and distinctive programs have been created, such as the Biotechnology program for first-year students during the academic year 2013/2014. The department also oversees the teaching of chemistry courses for the science divisions in the Faculty of Education and the preparatory years in the Faculties of Engineering and Applied Arts at Helwan University.
