- Applied Chemistry Achievements
The Division of Chemistry and Applied Chemistry organized one-day factory visits for third and fourth-year students to link theory with practice. The third-year students visited Helwan Cement Factory and Pachin Paint and Chemical Industries factory. The fourth-year students visited Rotogravure factory last March. They will visit other factories and companies, such as Helwan Fertilizers Factory and United Carton, during this May.
- Applied Chemistry Achievements
- Dr. Rania El-Leithy, Lecturer of Biochemistry in the department, was nominated as the representative of the Faculty of Science to participate in the Integrated Development Convoy organized by the Center for Monitoring and Studying Community Problems, in cooperation with the university's faculties for the Kafar El-Elw area. The event was titled "Awareness Against Breast Cancer" and took place on Monday, March 20, 2023. The participation of the Faculty of Science included a lecture given by Dr. Rania on "Foods that Protect Against Breast Cancer," and flyers and an introductory brochure about the disease were distributed. Attendees included Dr. Maysa Nabih, Assistant Professor in the Geology Department, and first-year students of the Biotechnology program.
- Dr. Rania El-Leithy, Lecturer of Biochemistry, certified trainer at the Faculty Members Development Center, and Head of the Credibility and Ethics Standard, was assigned to deliver a lecture titled "The Ethical Charter for the University Student and Combating Corruption". The lecture was part of the seminar held for Faculty of Science students on Thursday, December 1, 2022, in the Seminar Hall. The lecture included the following topics: An overview of the National Strategy for Combating Corruption, Definition of corruption and its manifestations, Qualities of the ideal university student, Definition of the ethical charter and its objectives, Mechanisms for applying the ethical charter, and Duties of the university student.
- Seminars
- The Biotechnology and Molecular Biology Program organized an awareness day on breast cancer on Sunday, October 23, 2022, coinciding with the global Breast Cancer Awareness Month, under the supervision of Dr. Rania El-Leithy, the program coordinator. The day included a seminar titled "What is Breast Cancer?", the participation of breast cancer survivors and the story of their treatment journey, a presentation by the program's students on recent scientific research related to breast cancer, and an awareness campaign for students on campus involving the distribution of awareness flyers about the disease by the Biotechnology program students.
- The Biotechnology and Molecular Biology Program organized a seminar titled "How to Identify Drug Users from External Appearance" on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, under the supervision of Dr. Rania El-Leithy, the program coordinator. The speaker was Prof. Dr. Fathy El-Komy, Professor of Forensic Medical Sciences at the National Center for Social and Criminological Research. The lecture included the definition of addiction and drugs, their types, causes of drug use, forms of drug use, the appearance and characteristics of drug users visible on a person's external appearance, as well as a presentation of some new forms of drugs and photos of drug victims. The valuable information from the seminar proved beneficial, increasing awareness against the dangers of drugs.
- The Bachelor's Biotechnology and Molecular Biology Program organized a seminar titled "Preparing a Distinguished Biotechnology Graduate" under the supervision of Dr. Rania El-Leithy, the program coordinator. The speaker was Dr. Ayman Saleh Mohamed, CEO of "Egypt Innovators for Biotechnology" company, and this took place on March 5, 2023. The goal of the seminar was achieved, which is effectively qualifying Helwan Science Biotechnology graduates for strong competition in the local and regional labor market, in line with Egypt's Vision 2030.
- Scientific International Publications
- More than one hundred scientific papers and research articles were published in various international journals indexed in the Scopus database during 2022.
- Participation in Conferences
- Helwan University, represented by the Bachelor's Biotechnology and Molecular Biology Program at the Faculty of Science and the Biocluster Technology Incubators Office, hosted for the first time the Ninth Season of the National Biotechnology Competition "Science Application Pioneers in Egypt" (SOLE 2023). The competition was held on Friday, February 17, 2023, at the University's Arts and Culture Complex, with the participation of more than 600 students and researchers in the various scientific tracks from 15 Egyptian universities, namely: Helwan University, Cairo University, Banha University, Mansoura University, Al-Azhar University, Tanta University, Damietta University, MUST University, MSA University, Badr University, Badr University in Assiut, and Al Galala University. The competition was held in the presence of a large number of prominent professors and senior researchers from various institutes, hospitals, and research centers in Egypt.
- Students of the Biotechnology and Molecular Biology Program attended the Helwan University conference "Reality and Future of Local and Global Climate Changes," held from October 3 to 5, 2022, at the University's Arts and Culture Complex and the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels, Helwan University. Participation included a scientific poster by fourth-year students titled "Green and Environmentally Friendly Nanotechnology for Combating Parasitic Worm Infections". The team won the award for Best Scientific Poster at the conference.
- Awards Winning
- The Helwan Science Biotechnology team participated in the Ninth Season of the SOLE competition, which was held at Helwan University on Friday, February 17, 2023, with the participation of 15 public, private, and national universities. The Biotechnology program at the Faculty of Science, Helwan University, participated in the competition's various tracks, and the supervision committee for the program's student competitors consisted of: Prof. Mohga Shafik, Prof. Medhat Wahba, Dr. Mohamed Omran, Dr. Amira El-Sayed, Dr. Manar Selim, Dr. Shaimaa Shawky, Dr. Sara Abdou, Dr. Ehab Abdel Raouf, Dr. Rania El-Leithy, and Dr. Eman Tawfik. The team managed to win three awards, which are: First place for presentation by student Ziad Tarek; Third place for a scientific project by students Krolos Hany and Nady Amr; and Third place in entrepreneurship for students Ashwak Mohsen, Youstina Milad, and Veronica Ramy.
- Two teams of fourth-year students from the Molecular Biotechnology Program at the Faculty won in the Graduation Projects Support Program "Mashrou' Bedayety" (My Beginning Project) for the academic year 2022/2023, offered by the Academy of Scientific Research.
- Students of the Biotechnology and Molecular Biology Program participated in the fifth track of the "Multi-Axis Hackathon and Climate Change Challenges" competition held at Helwan University. This track focused on technological solutions for environmental preservation and biodiversity conservation. The program's students won first and second place and the Innovation Shield in the competition.
- Field Visits
- Students from the Biotechnology and Molecular Biology Program visited "Zewail City of Science, Technology and Innovation" under the supervision of Dr. Rania El-Leithy, the program coordinator, on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.
- Students from the Biotechnology and Molecular Biology Program visited Children's Cancer Hospital 57357 under the supervision of Dr. Rania El-Leithy, the program coordinator, on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, to bring joy and happiness to the children and alleviate the pain of receiving treatment doses.
