The laboratory provides research and technical consultation services to junior researchers, including master's and doctoral students from various departments within the faculty and neighboring faculties at Helwan University. These services primarily involve the extraction, purification, and characterization of natural products from diverse natural sources such as plants, microorganisms, marine sediments, and others.
The laboratory also studies the biological activity of numerous natural products, focusing on their potential as anticancer and antimicrobial agents. Additionally, it conducts analyses on the origin and evolution of certain microorganisms—such as bacteria, from which some natural products are derived—using ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) sequencing.
The laboratory is expected to be accredited as a reference unit and to obtain quality accreditation according to ISO 17025 standards.
