Professor Badr was awarded the Egyptian State Prize for Excelling Research in Biological Sciences in 1996 and Tanta University Prize for Merit in Sciences in 2008.

:Research Interests

Professor Badr’s research interests covered a wide spectrum of topics in plant genetics, plant biotechnology, biodiversity, plant biosystematics, and crop domestication as well as cytogenetic and molecular hazards of agricultural chemicals. His current research interests deal with genetic diversity and sustainable conservation of medicinal and threatened plants in arid environments. He is also engaged in research on plant taxonomy and systematics breeding of some legumes using gamma irradiation and the impact of abiotic stress on plant performance, particularly on maize.

:Scientific Activities, Initiatives and Achievements

Professor Badr founded the Genetics and Biotechnology Laboratories at Tanta University and initiated the M.Sc. program in Genetics (1998) and the B.Sc. program in Biotechnology in (2012). He supervised 65 postgraduate dissertations and published more than 125 peer reviewed articles, five books and three electronic books. He participated in in ten projects and chaired, organized and participated in over 100 conferences. He was invited speaker in 25 conferences. He is an editor and/or reviewer for over 30 international, regional and Egyptian journals.
